'They Both Die at the End' is a YA fiction novel by 'Adam Silvera' where the two protagonists spend their last day together, make us fall in love with them and then they both die at the end. That's not a spoiler, that's literally the title. I don't know why I read books that wreck me emotionally and haunt my soul. Honestly, I don't know why I expected this book to be anything but a journey filled with tears.

"Stories can make someone immortal as long as someone else is willing to listen."

Our two main characters , Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio get a call from Death-Cast informing they will be dying in the next 24 hours. Death-Cast is a company which calls people to inform them if they are going to die today. As per my understanding, the main idea behind this is to stop people from being in constant fear and anxiety about death and live their life until they receive the call; which is when some people choose to throw their own funeral, tick things off their bucket-list, spend the day with loved ones, etc. As a result of the Death-Cast situation, many unique services have come into existence including a 'Make a moment' business which is like "Make a wish' for people who are going to die that day, an app that helps Deckers (people who are going to die) meet a friend to spend their last day with. This is exactly how Mateo and Rufus meet and spend their last day together.

I absolutely loved the concept of the book and it is very very fascinating how the author has managed to create this world that has services, businesses catering to the Deckers. We also get to visit few places through our main characters and I could literally feel myself being transported there. How different people handle the 'today you die' call is also excellently explored through subplots. We get to read the book through the point of view of various characters which happens to be my favorite style of writing, it gives a glimpse of each character's perspective. We also see their family dynamics and friendships woven into the storyline. It can be a little slow at times and a few character interactions do seem forced and unnecessary.

One beautiful take-away from this book for me is to take chances everyday, do as our heart pleases, seize every opportunity of living our best life without worrying too much about failing or caring about other people's opinion; because who knows this might just be your last chance to do so.

The book raises a beautiful question of can you live a lifetime's worth in a single day ??? I think you should find the answer by giving this book a try because I totally recommend it.
